Party houses usually result from short-term rentals (e.g., Airbnb or similar online booking services). The city passed an ordinance in 2018, which can be found in L.A. Municipal Code Section 41.58.1, prohibiting loud or unruly gatherings, and providing for fines and penalties.
In an effort to obtain better facilitate City Attorney action about those habitual party houses that throw parties that disturb the peace of our community, here is a guideline to properly log complaints so the City Attorney can take action:
It is important to note that if you see a crime in progress or about to occur, call 911.
- Get the ADDRESS of the property!
- Call the non-emergency line to report a complaint. The LAPD non-emergency number is (877) 275-5273 — or (877) ASK-LAPD. This reporting system will take time so please be patient.
- IMPORTANT TIP: Once you speak with an LAPD operator and lodge the complaint, ask the operator for the incident number. Keep this number as part of your record of the call, as it will be important.
- It will be helpful to notify us of the report and the incident number – email us at westwoodhills@groups.io
- Be patient if LAPD cannot immediately respond. The record of the call will be useful for LAPD to confront the property owner(s) and to forward on to the City Attorney.
- Even if LAPD officers cannot immediately respond due to other priority calls, the record of the incident number will be useful, as those records are significant for the City Attorney to take action.
